Rolltek along with our Sister Company Die-Pat Divisions decided that for its annual Christmas appeal it would do something for the local community and we chose the Daventry Food Bank as our charitable cause.
The Food Bank based in Daventry is totally run by volunteers who give up their time to open the bank 3 times a week. The Food Bank on average provides 250 meals a week but at times this has increased to 500.
It is reported that 1 in 5 people live below the poverty line in the UK , that is 1 in 5 having to choose between food or gas/electricity. This can be caused by a sudden, unexpected event such as bereavement, illness, redundancy or theft to cause a financial crisis.
The Daventry Food Bank was started in 2010 with a view to provide emergency/essential food supplies to residents of Daventry District until the Social Care infrastructure comes into play.
Since they started in 2010, they have assisted thousands of families and individuals who have found themselves in a place where they simply do not have enough money to put food on the table.
We launched our appeal at the end of October and staff generously donated 6 large boxes of essential foods which we donated to the Food Bank just before Christmas. When we delivered the boxes we were advised that the day before they had received 30 new referrals for food parcels. With this in mind we have decided that we will continue with our collection boxes throughout the year.
Die-Pat’s Head of Marketing Lucy Gleghorn is also working on the production of simple recipe cards to accompany the food parcels, to provide advice on how to cook healthy meals using the typical contents of the food parcels that are given.
